Cottage Herbs is a wholesale nursery established on the fertile Virginia plains over 20 years ago. Our quality and performance history has seen us grow from strength to strength, supplying stock Australia-wide - quarantine regulations permitting.

From inception Cottage Herbs have utilized organic principals using natural agents to control insects and other plant pests.

Our perennial herbs are grown and utilized as source cuttings for the propagation of new stock. Using our own established plants ensures us that our herbs can flourish under normal garden conditions.

Annual herbs such as basil, rocket and parsley, to list a few grow rapidly and may become spindly in summer. The size of plants leaving the nursery is carefully controlled to ensure that they have a long pot life before the need to plant out or transfer to a larger container.

More mature plants for immediate harvesting can also be supplied.

Our diverse range of herbs have a wide range of uses. Lavenders, Rosemary and Santolia make excellent hedges. Penny royal, Corsican mint and Brahmi can be used as ground covers that have practical use as well as being decorative in rockeries or garden beds.

Cottage Herbs are able to grow specific requirements, provide larger, or mature plants, or supply tube stock for Landscape Designers/Architects, etc, on request. (30 plant minimum supply)

GROWING HERBS

• Herbs have wide culinary uses, medicinal properties, are a source of beverages, fragrances, oils, and as well as providing colour and decoration to gardens they can make excellent companion plants.
• Herbs are used in all cultures throughout the world and come from all climatic zones. So wherever you live there will be herbs suitable for you to grow.
• Herbs are not difficult to grow. They are hardy and considerably tougher than generally realised.
• Nearly all herbs will grow in full sun or partial shade.
• A good number can be grown in containers; from large pots to hanging baskets. This may assist in enabling efficient regulation of water use. If grown in containers it is important that they do not dry out as this will cause leaf burn, particularly to the summer annuals.
• The addition of organic fertiliser fortnightly during the growing period helps promote new growth if they are being harvested.
• Herbs respond well to being harvested.
• Herbs such as mints and arthritis plant can grow rapidly and are best confined to containers.
• Many of the common herbs are annuals or bi-annuals.
• Some of our herbs are grown seasonally so keep an eye on our stocklist as this changes regularly.
